About Uzhanian National Nature Park

Uzhanian National Nature Park is located in the southeastern part of the Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine, encompassing a significant portion of the Carpathian Mountain range. Established in 1999, the park aims to conserve the rich biodiversity and unique natural environments of the region. The park's geography varies from rolling forested hills to rugged mountain ridges, with elevations reaching up to approximately 1,231 meters. Characterized by extensive old-growth European beech forests, the park is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe." Uzhanian harbors a diverse array of flora and fauna including lynx, brown bears, wolves, and numerous bird species, making it a prime spot for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers.

Visitors to Uzhanian National Nature Park can enjoy well-marked hiking trails that traverse diverse terrain—from dense forests to open meadows and rocky outcrops. Popular activities include hiking, nature photography, educational tours, and wildlife observation. In addition, the park provides an opportunity to explore traditional Carpathian culture and rural villages near the park's borders. The park is less crowded than many western national parks, offering a more tranquil and immersive natural experience. Its clean air, pristine forests, and protected ecosystems make it a vital sanctuary for conservation as well as eco-tourism. Facilities are basic but sufficient, with local guides available to enhance visitor knowledge of the area's natural and cultural heritage.
